We start by having a conversation, so I understand what you’re looking for and how I can meet (and hopefully exceed) your expectations. You can see samples on my site to give you an idea, and I’m happy to send you more. Once we’re ready to go, I start by drawing out the portrait. I then create a base layer of paper and mark out placement of the eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Next, I pick a spot and start creating! (I usually start with the nose and eyes and then work my way until the piece is complete.) I go off of the colors from your photo and start layering and overlaying colors to create gradients and depth. I layer the color under the drawing and cut out larger shapes as a base. Then I start filling it in with detailed strands, which for the most part I just eye the shapes needed to fit everything together. I then indivually cut and mold those bits and pieces, using an exacto knife and glue. This way, each piece is carefully done and each becomes a unique work of art. Let me know if you’d like to get started!
